Growing up a native Athenian, Doug has been part of Prince Avenue Baptist Church for most of his life. He joined the staff in 1983, serving first as the college pastor, then as discipleship pastor, and is now leading the adult ministry programming for the church. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Doug also completed his master’s degree at Southwestern Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.
Doug’s ministry passion is encouraging and facilitating spiritual life change in individual lives. Life change is the hallmark of our Christian walk with Christ. Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us, “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus…”
Doug has been married to his wife, Janet, for over 30 years. She is a part-time registered nurse at Piedmont Athens Regional hospital in cardiac rehabilitation. They are the parents of a daughter, Leah, who is a high school student. In his free time, Doug enjoys music, reading, and spending time with his family.
